I say go FIPK(K&N) or go home. You dont have a guy a new one either. People have them for sale all the time for $100. Id just wait for one of those to show up. Makes me sick I paid $200 for mine new... what was I thinking.

Re: Are these CAIs worth a crap?

about a year ago my 94 lt1 Z was stock. its an M6 car and my buddies 96 cobra and my Z were fender to fender until we got into 4th. thats when my car would pull a couple car lengths on him before the end of the quarter.

i bought an SLP CAI used from a forum memeber for about $100. my buddy with the cobra raced me again. this time, by the end of 3rd i had a car on him and by the end of the 1/4 i had about 6 car lengths on him. this was on the street so i dont have and concrete numbers. but yes, they do work, even on an otherwise stock car. i was surprised.

Re: Are these CAIs worth a crap?

I think you guys are kind of missing his point. He's asking about the ebay "custom" CAI by the homemade guys. The answer is this:

K&N, Moroso, SLP, and several others make good CAI that have a lot of R&D go into them. They price their products in order to cover their costs, their investments, and to make a little money. Now, take into account that those "kits" on ebay cost almost nothing. How much do you think they're making? Do you think that they are doing it for free? So naturally, their cost is QUITE low. I will draw your attention to two things.

1.) The intake tubing is quite small. Look at the intake tubing for a good CAI. From what I can tell of the pics, they look at LEAST a half inch to an inch smaller in diameter. This is not good for flow.

2.) No dynocharts, no testing, but they are quick to throw in numbers without this proof. These people have made what they "think" is a clone of a good CAI, but haven't actually tested it. Therefore their claims are meaningless.

I will say this as well... it could quite possibly be better than stock. I put a conical K&N on the end of my stock intake setup, and deleted the air box, and had a SOTP gain. This is really simple. So the answer is, is it worth 20 bucks, probably. But also: It's worth just that..... 20 bucks. You could probably go around and build one yourself for about the same.

Hey dude look there is no replacement for good research and development i was thinking about it but i went with the K&N and i saw a huge gain in performance. When you are modding your car the last thing you want are cheap parts.

Looks like that filter will suck water if you drive it in the rain. POS if you ask me.

Re: Are these CAIs worth a crap?

A buddy of mine got one for his 95 T/A. It looks ok, I guess. Tubing seems kind of small, but whatever. He didn't keep the filter it came with, he got a K&N for it and it seems to work pretty well. I'd say just wait and get the real deal, but that's just me.

there are better quality ones that go to the bottom and have bigger tubing on ebay for less than $30
