tell me a good next mod

I have a 96 SS and i have slowly begun modding it. The biggest factor in my modding is that i still want a very reliable everyday driver, that will pass smog in CA

Therefore all ive done so far is the TB Bypass, 160 Stat, and K&N Filter.

Within the next few weeks im ordering an SLP Clutch, and taking it to a shop for installation, but then i want to start modding my car.

Ive thought about...

-1.6 RR's with new springs
-SLP equal length headers for dual cat cars (i know these suck compared to all the smog illegal headers that are out there, but i want to still have a street legal car)
-4.11 rear end
-PCM 4 Less tuning
-LT4 KM
-Hot Cam (although i seriously doubt i would ever do this)

Are there any good mods out there that im not thinking of?

Thanks,
Greg

Headers.
Definetly headers.:)

from what i have been told, any type of header is going to make it rough on inspection in Cali.

i would do some tuning, gear, CAI, catback for starters and go from there

that is a good cluch choice too:bow:

you have the CAI, go with a cat back next

Roller rockers and springs are a good inexpensive mod. They made a surprising difference on my car.
Those SLP headers don't look that great. Do they give a worthwhile hp increase?
I would add subframe connectors, a Pro 5.0 shifter, !CAGS and a shift light to your list.

i would personally go with a set of neons, then altezzas, a aluminum wing. Hmm, maybe a single wiper conversion, and aluminum siding as ground effects.

:p Just kiddin, get a catback

thanks for the help guys

I already have CAI because my SS has a functional Ram Air
I also have the SLP 2OTL Cat back, and a shift light

What is !CAGS

Headers, cutout, and NX. :D

i would do the gears but not 4:11's maybe some 3:73's.....
and do the headers and then the tune. dont go internal.. i regret doing it sometimes, unless it is done right.. but you never know!
good luck

greg0101 07-14-2003 02:20 PM

i thought that the stock rear gears were 3.73's, i may be wrong though

anyway the reason why i am going to put 4.11's in is because my buddy is going to sell me his entire rear end assembled with 4.11's for $400 because he's moving up to a ford 9"

ONELOUDKAR 07-14-2003 02:28 PM

no, mine are 3:42's code GU6.... expect your RPM's to rise tons when on the hwy with those 4:11's. That makes me wonder... having your RPM's up so high during driving, wouldn't that raise the temperature of your car causing it to run hot more often?

greg0101 07-14-2003 03:03 PM

the rpms will definitely rise a bit, but i hardly ever get into 6th gear as it is, so im not really worried.

I usually cruise on the freeway at about 85. In 5th thats just over 2K rpm, and in 6th it would be about 1700 rpm.

As far as engine temp i suppose it would go up, but i plan on using a higher transmission gear, so it should just about even out.

I mostly want the rear end for the acceleration advantage off the line due to higher torque
