TA Differential Cover and Stud Install Guide?

Hey guys.. I just picked up a TA cover w/ stud kit and will be installing this on Wednesday as well as replacing my leaky pinion seal.

Is there any guide or instructions to installing the stud kit? I'm not sure what all goes with installing this, and I understand there are some modifications to be made.

I checked out Brett's site and there was a link to an install guide but it is now dead

http://users.multipro.com/wizkid/ta_...id_install.htm

Was the old link, the redirect link is also dead

Can anyone help me or give me some good instructions to go by? If so I promise to add a good install guide to zmydust.com

1) Jack car up
2) Loosen all 10 bolts
3) Put catch pan under rear
4) Take bottom 9 bolts out, all but the top bolt
5) Use a big headed flathead screwdriver and pry the cover loose
6) After its drained some take the last bolt out
7) There's a drain area, but the old gasket will have it blocked, it's on the right side. Remove this and let it drain for 15 minutes
8) When it's about all drained out get some old rags and wipe out all the old oil. Reach as far back as you can. You can also use brake cleaner.
9) Now get a razor scrapper and get the old gasket off. I used some rags to cover the gears and diff.
10) If you are using RVT (use the red by the way) go ahead and put a good bead around the housing, not to thick. Also make sure you go on both sides of the screw holes. I went ahead and laid my gasket on top of the beads.
11) On the new cover back the pre-load screws all the way out.
12) After about 15 minutes from putting the RVT on go ahead and put some on the other side of the gasket and wait a few minutes again.
13) Now begin to put the new cover on, the two longer bolts go where the clips were on the factory cover. All 10 bolts are supposed to be torque to 22ft/lb.
14) The pre-load bolts are supposed to be 5ft/lb.
15) Now don't use the fill hole on the cover, use the one on the other side of the housing (factory fill hole). The one on the new cover will let you put in to much oil and cause it to leak out of the over fill hole causeing a mess.
16) You'll have to use a hose or something to get the oil in. What I used was a hose that I got at Advance Auto. It goes on the top of a quart of oil. I used an old bottle and just did it that way, also the oil bottle is easier to squeeze.
17) You'll be able to get about 1.5 quarts in before it starts to come back out the fill hole. DON'T FORGET TO ADD THE ADDITIVE SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE.
18) Install plug and clean everything off.
19) Now go have some fun.

That's what I did last week, I know it's not very detailed but that's just from memory.

Jason

I've always wondered what advantage studs are over bolts in this application.

Did you read the instructions above??? the stud kit description is in there!....

It's not that hard... ok... trust me...Tighten the bolts to 5 Ft-Lbs, then just tighten the nuts up to hold the studs in place.... just what was said above...

I believe he's talking about the studs that replace the bolts that hold the bearing caps on. You're talking about the set screws that put pressure on the bearing caps to minimize distortion.

It's been awhile since I've done this, but here's what I remember.

I did one side at a time. Remove the bearing cap bolts. Install the new studs and torque to 10 ft/lbs. Re-install bearing cap and then tighten the new hex nuts to 60-70 ft/lbs.

The stud kit is easier to install than the cover itself. Good luck.
