surging/missing?
I just bought a '95 z28 convertible and I installed a new clutch and new spark plugs. It was skipping when I got it becasue the plugs were gone and it had an exhuast leak. I fixed that and it idles fine, but when you floor it, it turns up but it acts like it's skipping under load. You can rev it up sitting still and it turns up fine, but when you're on the road and floor it, it goes but acts like it skipping. It already had new wires when I got it. I don't know if it needs a new opti, a new coil, bigger wires or what. Any suggestions or comments?

How many miles? Sounds like an opti symptom.

check all of the wires, something could be arching, a wire maybe be on wrong.. if not then it could be the opti ....
|
Thanks, guys. I was leaning towards an opti but hoping that it wasn't. Yeah the Z has 130,000 miles so that probably is the source of the problem.

seems like an opti
borrow a coil from someone and try that first also a fuel filter helped mine out when was last time that was replaced? |
Guys, I think I'm screwed. The car isn't throwing a code, so it's not likely to be anything electrical. I had a guy take a look at the Z today and he's leaning towards a burnt valve because of the manifold leak. That sucks! I'm going to do a compression test on it tomorrow to make sure.
Dobe, know where any stock LT1 heads are? I'd like to find some with bigger springs. I figure if I have to take the heads off might as well put a cam in. I guess I'll just put a post up in the parts wanted forum. Thanks again guys. |
find out any more on it? how was the compression test?
btw not everything is gonna throw a code. mine never threw a code for when mine was messed up. i done wires, plugs, fuel filter, opti, crap the egr then it fixed ;) ill take your stock heads if u wanna get rid of em |
I'll find out more today. Didn't get around to it yesterday. I'll let you know about the heads, dobe. I found a donor car i might buy and it has good heads on it, supposedly. I'll keep you posted.

Done a compression test and it turned out great. Every cylinder had at least 130psi. I guess it is the opti. Anything else I should check before I order an opti? Thanks.

Check the throttle body elbow. If it's ripped or not seated correctly, extra air getting in under load will cause the car to run badly.
Actually, any vacuum leak would. Check for leaks around the engine/intake manifold. Definitely try the coil after that, before the opti. |
