Are Super Rams benificial to LT1's?

I'm getting conflicting opinions on this. Some say the LT1 intake's better, but some also say the Super Ram offers a lot of torque compared to the LT1 intake.

Are we talking about a super ram/LT1 intake on an older car or on an LT1 engine? LPE did make a super ram for an LT1, but since the LT1 intake isn't as big a restriction as the TPI intake, it didn't go over as well.

Yes I was refering to the Super Ram setup for an LT1. I thought they didn't make them anymore, but Accel says they still do, they just don't advertise them. Are they worth the effort for an LT1?

I doubt it. The LT1 intake is not very restrictive. The only benefit I could see out of the super ram would be a possible increase in bottom end torque since the runners would be longer. Seeing the kind of $$ that the pizza box costs, I don't think you would be very happy with the end results.

Hmmm well if you want to know the good and bad things about both intakes....

First the LT1 is great for a 6500-8000rpm intake IF it could flow what the heads you would use with that type of setup needed it to flow.

The 3" intake runners on the LT1 intake are worthless for a street car. They do give a decently flat TQ curve on a stock motor but they suck when you want to get some nice tuning pressure from the intake runner lengths.

One reason why the LS1 is such a better motor in terms of power and TQ numbers is because of the intake, the LS1 has a large cross sectional area runner that is 10-11" long where the LT1 has a small cross sectional area and short runners. Big cross section helps flow and long runners help intake tuning pluses, both of those things are what makes a good EFI intake manifold.

The Accel intake acts like a LS1 intake and will produce about 30-40ft lbs more TQ thru the midrange of most street engines. They are not the best for 6500+ engines, but with street engines you don't see that much anyways.

It's like a single plane intake on a LT1, makes more power and TQ and produces some awesome improvements at the drag strip.

Good thing is that I am working on a intake that's a good solution to the LT1 intake and it will use the stock style TB to boot!

I can't wait to see that Bret.

You could always buy the LT1 Carb intake, weld the distributor hole closed, tap it for injectors and run a holley 4bbl throttle body. That would be a pretty pimp setup. Assuming it fit under the hood/cowl that is.

The carbed LT1 intake is a junk compared to most single plane race manifolds, which are easy to convert over.

Converting SBC intakes over to LT1 bolt patterns I do frequently. Starting with a intake with injector bungs to start with is a good piece to start with.

I haven't tried it with the LT1 carb manifold. It was just a quick thought since all the bolt holes are right and whatnot. I think it would be fun to make a dual throttlebody tunnel ram manifold. Or maybe an old roots style blower with MPFI and dual throttlebodies. But I'm wierd sometimes (and usually broke ). The last manifold I got to touch was for a 5.0 mustang. It was a high rise (victor Jr or victor) with injectors tapped and a 90 degree elbow with a big single bore TB on it. I thought it was over kill until I saw the 90 mm turbo that was sitting in the car. That was awesome.
