Sucking oil through intake manifold gasket??!!

Hey guys. I need some experienced help here.

I had the motor rebuilt last winter and I went with some AFR heads. I dropped the motor in and from the start it burnt oil. I assumed it was a problem with the rings not seating. All 8 burnt oil.

I just took the intake manifold off - the last thing before taking the engine mounts out - and I noticed some issues that have me doubting the rings as a problem.

Firstly the intake runners are clean and dry but the head runner are wet with oil. In addition the intake manifold gaskets are oil on the bottom half.

So bottom line, has anyone had experience where they were burning oil and leaky intake gaskets proved to be the problem? i have an LT1 intake.

You should be able to use compression and leakdown tests to prove if it is really rings.

I've pulled my intake 2x in the last 3 months to cure this problem. The Felpro 1284 gasket will help vs. the stock GM gasket. Also some 3M Yellow weatherstrip adhesive around each port will help seal it.

Usually intake gasket sealing problems mean the intake face is slightly off in terms of angle and needs to be milled, but often that's not a practical solution.

What tipped me off was the car started using oil and knocking pretty bad and the PCV valve was clean as a whistle. Pulled the intake and the head runners were coated with oil and the gaskets were as well.

I am having the same issues after going to AFR 190s. My car smokes all the time now. Did your cars smoke too? If the intake was leaking wouldnt the car act weird..Idle,etc.
