Stock Valve springs and 1.6RR???

Can I put 1.6 RRs on my stock 94 trans am without worying about coil bind? I did a search and couldn't find what lift the stockers were good to. I think 1.6 wit a stock cam was .477 lift.

I can't answer your question directly, but you should consider that you have 12 year old mediocre valve springs in your 94, and increasing the lift by .030, or whatever it works out to, might not let you realize the performance increase that you would get with fresh springs.

LT4 valve springs are only like $30, good to .525 lift with the Hotcam kit. I'd say that's pretty cheap insurance against coil bind/valve float.

Okay, I have new assembled heads and everything, but no time to put them on. So i was just going to throw the RR on there for SNG.

I have ran mine for 3 or 4 years and prolly put 40,000 on them. Never had one break, but I'm sure they're wore the hell out!

Don't risk it. It's not much extra work or money for LT4 springs, retainers, and locks. Honestly, if the motor has alot of miles, it may not hurt changing the valve seals if they're starting to wear.

My friend decided to use the stock springs; after about 10K miles it broke the tips off 2 of his push rods due to coil bind.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I'll just hold off. I'm building a new engine for the car this winter. Just had these laying around and thought I might throw them on.

You would be seriously pushing your luck, aint worth it with LT4 springs, retainers and locks costing less than $65.00 shipped.
