stock rear end strong enough?

i got a friend with a friend with a 90 mustang with bolt ons and a 200 shot of n.o.s. and he runs slicks and hits his 200 shot out of the hole. i thought he was crazy for doing that on a stock rear end, but it seems to hold up fine. are the mustang rear ends alot stronger than are rear ends? with my mods with stock rear end and stock gears could i put some slicks on? has anyone done this?

the mustang 8.8 is the ford equivilent in strength to a chevy 12-bolt.

well that explains it. do you think it would be safe to run slicks with my mods without nos until 2nd or 3rd gear?

Its a crap shoot, slicks period are a risk, our rear sucks compared to thiers.

i would get a 9inch if you plan on changing gears often but if not you should get a 12bolt and you want to keep ABS and traction control

IMO i would go with the 9 inch

Our rear-ends are about as strong as glass when you add a set of slicks. That is one thing I have to give Ford credit for.;)

I just purchased a 9-in from Moser and it is just simply a solid piece. It is not as simple as it sounds to drop the center section to replace the gears in a 9-in. It took me an my buddy forever to get the centersection lined up with the studs. And my car was on a hoist. I couldn't imagine replacing the centersection on my back.
