Question Stock plug gap size?

I was wondering two things actually. As far as autolites go, what is the stock plug number and also what is the gapping of it. The reason that I ask is because after pulling out a plug just now, I found that there are 104's in there gapped at .040! This leads me to think that at some point my car had nitrous on it. So if anyone could help I would be grateful. Thanks

Thanks I didn't even think to look there! I wonder why these plugs were put in instead of the stock ones. The only thing I could think of is that it did have nitrous at one point. Also it's a little dark and smells like gas, what does that mean....running too rich or something?

Because the plugs were gapped small and the heat range was more then likely off you were not burning all the gas in the cylinders, it needs a bigger gap to allow proper combustion. the bigger and hotter the spark, the better fuel burn. I always suggest .48 for a gap just in case you decide to go with nos in the future

While .050" is the correct answer, I am surprised that the gap is that large. I've never owned a car with that much gap in the plugs. I would think .040" would be better for me especially since I have an MSD Ditgial 6+.

Is any body running a tighter gap?

.050" is the standard gap. I don't think it's abnormally large. The stock gap on my '90 Caddy is .060".

It does sound like someone had (or was planning) nitrous on your car from the plugs/gap in there, though!
