SS Motor

What is the difference in the 97 SS motor versus Z28

I know the cam and tune, anything else?

There is no difference in the engines themselves. Cam and tune are the same.

There has to be a difference, the SS is rated at higher horse power.

The difference is in the SS-style airbox and the freer flowing exhaust, but the motors are identical. Keep in mind that the rating is just that - a rating - and doesn't prove a thing. Most Z28s and SSs will dyno (under identical conditions) about the same.

OK, I did not know that. Thanks

thats right there is no diffrence, the engine is basically the same except for few engine exterior components like the air intake box and the exhaust muffler as RamAir95TA said

Only cars that got the 4-bolt mains were Corvettes, replacement LT1 short blocks/crate motors, and (debatably) some of the anniversary LT4 SSs/Firehawks. All SSs, Z28s, Formulas, T/As, WS6s, and Hawks got 2-bolt mains.

Replacement GM short blocks or having them converted by a reputable machine shop?

That wouldn't be "factory". The OP is asking about the engine as it left the factory.

I can show you a 30th Anniv. SS with a 1,350HP engine, running low 8's....but that isn't relevant to the question, either.

I second that. Ram-Air intake, exhaust (if it was optioned that way)... that is about it. And I second that they dyno about the same and run about the same at the track.

But mine came with SS floormats so its faster.

Ram-Air Intake
SLP Stainless Exhaust with quad tips and a 3 inch cat back pipe
Eibach Suspension
Oil Cooler
1LE Thicker Swaybars
1LE Control Arms
1LE Panhard Rod
Torsen Differential and Aluminum Cover
ZR1 Rims- 275/40/17 tires all around
Hurst Short Throw Shifter
