spark plug wire problems

I have had problems with my lt1 with pacesetter long tubes having misfiring problems. I think I have it narrowed down to the spark plug wire on the number 5 cylinder. When I replace it the cars runs great for a couple of days and starts misfiring again. The wire doesn't look burnt any where. Can the heat break down the wire on the inside without actually burning or melting the wire? Will a fire sleeve keep this from happening again? Do I need to get a fire cover for the boot as well? I can't run OTVC wires because I have an alternator relocation bracket for the taller rockers on my AFR heads. Would this work to protect my wire? http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0401&langId=-1
