sorta bad experience with thunderracing??

i have ordered some products that are on backorder, and when i ordered i was told they'd be in next week. didn't hear from thunder and nothing came in. i called them up and they told me the stuff should ship out that week. well, it's now the third week and i have emailed thunderracing and they have not gotten back to me. i went to call them but it was too late because of the time difference. i thought they had a really good rep on the board, and that is why i choose to give them my business. i am sorely dissappointed now and they have not met my expectations. has anyone else how a bad experience with thunder, because i typically only read good things about them? perhaps this is a one time slip up.

Nope... I prefer Thunder Racing over every online store i shop

RacinLT1 Feb 10, 2004 07:43 PM

you also have to consider that if parts are on Backorder,it isnt Thunder's fault. Manufacturers can be way behind,or waiting for parts themselves,so it isnt completely Thunder's fault if stuff is on backorder.

I would classify your experience as "not a big deal" at this point. They didn't promise to call you, right? As already mentioned, Thunder Racing could be getting the runaround from their vendors. It happens. Good luck.

i agree............ but it IS their responsibility to call you and say "hey, sorry we told you it would ship this week, its still delayed" just to keep you informed............but most shops are so busy they dont make time for that kind of stuff.

that being said, i have had 3 or 4 transactions with thunder and theyre good people........i would order from them again anytime.

It really isn't their responsibility to call you and inform you of everything going on with the transaction. If a purcahse is on backorder then you can expect to wait. If it wasn't on back order, then this case would be a different story.

I've had two bad experiences with thunder racing out of my 10+ orders from them. but hey, no publicity is bad publicity, right?
no hard feelings thunder...I just don't like the old facist Chris that works there. what an attitude!

hey i had same thing happen to me, i ordered my ovc wire kit, day before chirstmass i got it jan 18 i think.

not there problem, i wasnt very upset cause they didnt take the money out till jan 17 i think if they had been holding the money for a month i woulda been a little concerned

still havent put it on yet, waiting on my headers from a guy on ebay... hopefully i'll do it this weekend

They gave you an estimation of when they thought the manufacturer would have the parts to them. If the manufacturer didn't deliver, then I don't see it as their fault. I think the buyer has some responsibility to keep up with it as you can't expect them to call you to keep you updated. That is just my opinion.

I have known the owners personally since their inception and they have always done everything they could to help me out in any way whenever I needed it. So much so, that rather than have my motor built by someone else immediately, I elected to go on the waiting list for months before they could get to my build just because I trust their work and know I get the best quality work done.

I'm sure your parts will be on the way the day they come in at Thunder.

I've ordered from Thunder about 10 times and have had great luck with them. Even got a call when my order needed an adjustment due to availability (didnt have a handheld crimping tool when I ordered my OVC kit). So far I love Thunder and like ordering from them but I think that no shop can ever please absolutley everyone and there'll be a slip up from time to time.

I had some gears that got on backorder last year. They kept getting delayed from the manufacturer. Thunder offered to sell me another brand at a reduced price to get me going. I was not in a hurry, so I let it ride and got my gears not too long after that.
Backorders happen.

yea i work at a retail store and very often popular items get back ordered, atleast 2 or 3 items a week at my store are sold out because none of our distributors can get enough of them or something like that

I had just the opposite. Ordered a catback and was told it would be on backorder - maybe 2-3 weeks until I got it. 4 days later it is on my front porch. Problems or miscalculations happen when the word backorder is mentioned, most of the time not the sellers (TR) fault. I've always had a real good experience with Thunder.

I ordered wires and they were on backorder about a month ago.. so I cancelled the deal because I really didn't want the funds to get drawn at some random time later and also ended up wanting to order more parts all at once.

So a week or two later I order the wires and a fuel pump setup as well as some gaskets. They don't backorder the wires or gaskets but this time they backordered the pump. It's been three weeks now and still no word from them on the pump.. I'm kinda getting annoyed with the whole thing and will cancel the order if this lasts too much longer. I simply need the pump and am sitting on other more expensive parts until I can get the pump.

Anyway, for me that's two different mfg's parts that they backordered on two consecutive orders. I also have waited patiently for about three weeks without a single word from them. They also send one email initially that says one week.. I think that's just a generic email they use for backorders. It's definately been more than one week.

If they don't have the parts don't list them as for sale and take orders for them. It's a waste of my time. I certainly would have gone elsewhere by now and had the thing installed already when I did my rear end swap.

I also ordered some poly bushings once from them.. whatever they sent didn't actually fit my car. They still sit in the original box in my closet today. It was the mfg that made them wrong but they were the one selling them as being correct for my car.

All in all, I've had better experiences with jegs and summit but the fact that thunderracing has a broader base of parts for us and is laid out just for our vehicles so I don't have to sort through pages of catalogs to find the right part keeps me coming back to them for more. Ah well, i'm too laid back to be pissed.. just slightly annoyed at the whole issue.

You have to realize when there's a delay like that it's usually the manufacturer at fault...like it took 2 weeks for me to get my lamo flywheel from THunderracing...but THunderracing just sold me the products...it was actually SPEC that had the sh*tty delivery time. THunderracing is usually pretty good on thier word and time qoutes...but when thier manufacturers mess up don't blame THunder for it...blame the company who's part your ordering...it has to come from them first.....sh*t happens...good luck though.

For 60% of my parts I go Thunder
For 25% I go Summit
For 15 % I do it ebay!
