Some Valves Don't Feel Like They Seal Smoothly.

So I was changing out my springs with heads/engine still in car and noticed a few valves did not have that nice "thump" sound when pulled closed by hand. Engine has 72k on it. They had a feeling that they were not hitting their seal evenly or some grit was impeding a good seal but they did close completely with just a little more effort (easily done by hand). Is this normal for stock heads and just one of the reasons why you get so much more hp from just a multi-angle valve job?

Were they exhaust valves?

I think so but at the time I didn't even write them down. Kind of makes sense maybe the exhaust causes some build up there.

Only way to know is with a leak down test, the exhaust valves will get more buildup on them and may cause a little bit of a sticky feeling on higher millage motors.
