Some help

Well I disassembled my friends motor to do optispark today

a previous mechanic did a opti about 2 mnths ago and did not tighten driver water pump bolts, they were loose (a eighth of turn or less and they were off) Not to mention he charged a ridiculous amount to do it and part was bought separate.......

Futhermore....

I did normal regular removal of all things

took air injection pump off and removed the two tubes for opti ventilation ,one off intake elbow and one off air injection pump valve(and looks like a joiner with a nipple hanging out of back , this is a 96 block and heads, vented opti , 93 intake and e.g.r and a.I.r

Well when I took air pump out,rad fluid came out of pump, maybe a little less than half a cup

Was wondering if this is normal

Re: Some help

You found coolant in the AIR pump? No, that isn't normal. Perhaps some splashed in during cooling system disassembly....

Re: Some help

No splashing I unscrewed the clamp on pump and it poured out soon as I cracked seal on tube and I pulled it off

Re: Some help

Are you sure it wasn't just condensate from the exhaust? If the AIR check valves leak, and allow exhaust to flow toward the pump, the water in the exhaust condenses in the pump. That causes rust, and that's probably the main cause of pump failure.
