Should I go with a Y Pipe?
Should I go with a Y Pipe?
This may be a stupid question but im wondering if this may solve some problems...i have a 1994 Camaro z28, the thing has given me trouble starting, but now after a new MSD coil and a new ICM shes back up. THe ongoing problem of not running so great is kinda ticking me off now. The car seems to have like NO power! Some people are telling me maybe my cat converter is bad...could this be it? My question is I know that eliminating the cat is not only illegal, but makes some more power, How much power am i lookin at? a new cat is expensive and im goin to get pricing on a new Y pipe (cat eliminated) today? The car has flowmaster cat back on it, with a Vortex elbow and a homemade cai, will this be of a help HP wise and how much do you think? Thanks!

the day i put my borla on my cat clogged up that night and the car beagn missing very bad...i punched the car in first gear and it felt like i could ride my bike faster than what i was doing....few miles down the road the car just shut off. flooded my plugs, blew out the check valves..car wouldnt start.
after cat, plugs, checkvalves replaced ALL BETTER.. except for the damn opti i think might be going soon.
using a 3inch y pipe will allow exahust flow better.. just remeber you do need backpressure to get the lowend torque people crave.
Good Luck

Yeah, maybe 5rwhp if its functioning, however if its not you'll notice big time either way you fix it. Since you have the single cat setup, it'll be easy for you to find a ypipe, or you could just ahve someone cut it out and weld a straight section of pipe in.

Well a buddy of mine who owns the local welding shop told me that we couldcut the cat from the y pipe, knock all the restriction junk out, then reweld it back onto the stock y pipe...and for free...so should i try this?...you think i will pass inspection at all with nothing in there? he said i may be able to pass with the stuff gone, but wasnt guaranteeing anything...what do you all think i should do? Free is a nice price, but will that pass inspection...my problem is the local cops often have random DMV stops and will put mirrors under cars...if they see no cat im screwed...but if they see cat is there, but nothing is inside i may have best of both worlds...if it passes inspection!
Thanks

I have a stock y-pipe at my house, its got probably a year and a half on it (almost 6 months with no mileage on it from sitting at the top of my driveway).
You wont be able to pass emissions with nothing there, I can almost guarantee it, although I have heard stories
...
BTW, my car is a 94 as well
And if he leaves the cat there but knocks out the stuff inside it, it will look like you do have a cat still
