Shop says I have a leaking transmission
 

I am getting my clutch replaced and in the meantime, they say I have a tranny leak.

Just got a call from the shop working on this and they say that I have a leaking bushing from this case adapter? They also indicate that the assembly to fix it is over $500 from the dealer. Now, I say BULLS***!

What is so hard about fixing a leaking bushing? What makes this so special?

What is needed to do a leaking fix at the tranny? I would assume the tranny connects to the bell housing and that is it. What other possible "adapter" would be needed that has a stupid bushing that is leaking but cannot be fixed by a simple method of silicone or something of that nature?

Well considering the fact that a T56 has no bushings in it, I also call BS on this on. Maybe they are talking about a rear main seal or an Intake leak, or maybe the seal on the tailhousing of the tranny where the DS plugs in, other than that, unless it is leaking around the input shaft, but doubt that, thats an expensive job.

Going down to the shop right now to look.

Well, there is so much support for the input shaft other than that fron bearing, ie clutch/flywheel, pilot bearing/bushing. All that holds the oil in up front mostly is a bearing/race combo, and i think there might be a seal there too, cant remember, ill take a look at mine when I get home. Ive rebuilt 3 of these with lots o miles on 2 of them, and none had any leaks, the only spot that I would say might be leaking is the tailshaft seal.

Probably a tailshaft leak.....most all of them leak alittle.....I wouldnt worry about it unless its leaking alot......sounds like :bs:

OK went in and here is the prob:

The "shroud" (for lack of a better term) that envelopes the xmission input shaft is leaking at the area that is gasketed/glued into placed at the front of the housing. To me, a pretty simple fix of putting xmission quality silicone in that area to block it since it is not a rotating element. The input seal to the xmission was not leaking at all.

Anyway, I agreed that we should take the front cover off and reshim the bearings on the input shaft because there was some play. In the process the mechanic has indicated I have some messed up input shaft bearings. I will be replacing them, but now a question:

If I have bad input shaft bearing on my transmission how likely is it I should just be looking at a complete overhaul? Now, he is not a xmission mechanic and I have not personally looked at this.

If ya send it up to me I could fix it for ya, probly way cheaper than any shop, they wanted almost 1500 just for labor on replacing the 3/4 syncrhos. Im just confused on what this xmission stuff is?

Transmission is a long word, so I just used xmission.

Gotchya, figured that out just after i replied. Dont like tranny or trans? haha j/k.
