Shifting Problems

Hey Guys,

Any Help appreciated. I've got a 94Z. Just had the tranny rebuilt 4l60e. Before the tranny went This car topped out easily at 148. Since the rebuild I can't seem to get over 120. It used to redline at around 6200 now its redlining at exactly 5000. this is causing huge problems and not sure why its happening. Im assuming it needs to be reprogrammed. The tranny shifts perfect all except when you get on it and hit that 5000 redline then the rev limiter kicks in and thats it. Secondly, they flooded the motor when they ran it out of gas., They eventually got it restarted by removing the plugs and cleaning them. The car runs great until you get to that 115 120 mark then it doesnt feel like its pulling nearly as hard as it used too. Im wondering if the optispark is bad. Also, can the timing be knocked off with the way that ignition system is set up? Again, any help would be great! Thanks!

I mistakenly disconnected the TPS one day, the SES came on, the fans came on, and the car drove funny. I can't remember what the redline was, but I know it was shifting WAY early..

Without the TPS, the car went into limp mode, so if your car is in limp mode that might explain the problems you are having...

I only mentioned the TPS because that was what I was messing with at the time that caused my issue. Maybe one of the tranny connectors is off and causing the PCM to go to limp mode?

Got an SES light?

Rebuilding the transmission should not require a PCM program or anything, and shouldn't do anything to the redline as far as I know.

But someone else might know more than me.

TPS = Throttle Position Sensor
SES = Service Engine Soon light.

EDIT: Oh, and welcome to the board!

Those would have been my guesses. Clearly Im a rookie. Actually only upgraded to the lt1 about 6 months ago. The SES light isnt on but the brake light and ABS light are for some reason. Where exactly is that sensor located on the TB, I see there are LOTS of connections around that area. Theres only one main plug on the tranny that I know of so I know its down there. If the sensor is bad will is cause it too redline prematurely? The shift points seem right on its just when you nail it.

I really doubt the TPS is the problem here, that was merely an example on my part, but if you are facing the throttle body from the front of the car, the TPS is on the left side of the throttle body. It's black and has a small connector on the lower front of it.

I've never looked at my tranny harness to know if there's just one or not so I'll take your word for that.

Since you say shift points are ok, and it's just acting up at WOT, I'll have to step back and let some of the more experienced people step up to the plate here.

Good luck!

Well, I appreciate your help. Its funny whats goin on with it. If you just push the peddle like your going to pass it works and kicks down properly accelerates great. Just when you floor it it immediatly jumps down, and when it does its over the redline causing the limiter to kick in. I think this is where I'm losing my top end too. Not trying to be repetitive but just trying to paint an accurate picture of whats happening. Anybody else that may have an idea what it could be let me know. Thanks!
