SES light flashes

I've noticed that my SES light flashes about 10-20 times randomly, but only while I am driving in heavy rain and the road is covered/submerged in water.

Normally the SES light remains on all the time due to a less-than-efficient cat on the driver's side.

Is this normal or something I should be concerened about?

Thanks.

What year car do you have?
We need a few details to better help you out here.
Flashing SES usually means the problem is happening right now and is happening again and again, such as multiple misfires.
Do you have access to a scanner and give us the code it is registering?
This will help tremendously.

Shoebox might be here to give you some answers on the air bag light flashing but all I know is that system is touchy so its best to let someone who knows what they are doing fix it.

On OBDII cars, flashing SES means catalyst damaging misfire. Basically means your car is misfiring heavily. If you keep driving while it is happening for a while, you can cook your catalytic convertor (you could be dumping raw fuel down the pipe, which burns in the exhaust system, including the cat).

I had SES/Airbag/ABS trouble in the rain, check and tighten the ground stud on the passenger side just behind the red power block. It cheap, easy, and free...you just might get lucky too.

I've got a 96 Z, and I've known that my cat hasn't been good for some time. I haven't noticed any out-of-the-ordinary things while it does it. It never does it any other time. Could said driving conditions have that kind of effect on it?

I'll get it scanned when I've got a chance.

Would it be good to get it replaced, or is it alright if I keep driving around like this? Aside from not being up to EPA standards are there any other problems?
