self porting heads

has anyone out there ever ported there own heads? I think i will get the hot cam kit and get my heads shaved, but i would like to save money by porting the heads my self. is this possible on my heads?

I tried the search and couldnt find anything. tried your link, but i already know that lloyd elliot can port my heads. i want to do them on my own and was wondering if anyone has done this themselves. i dont have alot of cash im still in highschool so i need an auto shop project.

I did my own heads and also my friends and they turned out great. Yeah they're not professional but they look awesome. I have a lot more top end now but you never know how much they actually flow. I have a 306 cam and bolt ons and I have 380rwhp. Just make sure you don't go too big. Bigger is not always better and you can also hit the water jackets. If your new at this you might want to just trace the gasket pattern on them and port that way. It's a lot safer. Try to keep everything uniform and port the bowls good. Then polish the heck out of it. You will at least gain some hp just from the polish so it doesn't hurt from a $40 p&p kit.

if you are gonna do it yourself, make sure that the ports are the same size and don't lower the floors to much....don't go crazy, bigger isn't always better...

Hey, thanks alot guys ... o ya and my auto shop teacher has done a set of iron heads but he told me to find out about aluminum ones before i went and took my car apart... now to just get my dads ford back together and start on my car
