Screeeeeeech

Ok, i redid my brakes last week end. I turned the rotors, got new pads, i know i put them on right, but now i have this really bad screech when I brake. Not always but about 95% of the time. What could have gone wrong??? I'm almost 100% positive i put them on right and then went out to test them so i know it can't be any coating on the b/c it's been a week and it is still there!!! It is driving me insane!! There is this brake lube that you are supposed to put on the rear or the pad(I did) that is supposed to stop the screeching but could it be that i didn't use enough?? I used GhettoZone pads(the cheaper ones) and they guy said that there should be no probs using them. Any help would be appreciated!!! A LOT!!!!!

I have a friend with a 2000 Prelude that bought all new pads and rotors and they were the autozone brand and they do the same thing to him and we also made sure we used the brake quiet lube and all that junk. I just think its one of their perks. Buy the higher end pads next time and you shouldnt have a problem.

Did you use Brake Clean before tightening everything up? Dirt can ruin it. Doesn't sound like you have glazed rotors, either...

It may still go away when the pads and rotors get better aquainted.

When I installed my new pads on all 4 corners they made noise for a while, I was really pissed. But after a while they shut up and haven't made a peep since. I did them last summer. Just take it easy on them with no hard stops and few more break in miles should quite them down if everything was reinstalled properly.

both mine and my girlfriends did the same when changed. it'll go away:)

If your concerned about brake squeal, get the VGX pads. They are quiet. I have a convertible and the squeal was realy annoying. Once I put the VGX pads on, the brakes have been quiet. I saw the VGX pads in the summitracing.com catalog and they were advertised as being quiet and they are.

my experience has always been that cheaper pads squeek... i think its like this... you get what you pay for ... every since i quit buying cheap pads my brakes have never squeeked

Im using Ceramix pads form NAPA. They are a nonmettalic ceramic pad with little to no brake dust. Overall great pad.

I didn't use brake clean. What do you mean by "dirt can ruin it"?
