Scary Valvetrain Noise

Looking for a little help diagnosing this... About a week ago I noticed what sounded like a single valve getting a little loose when I'd first drive my car in the morning. After a couple days it progressed to a loud tick above 1500 and a metallic warble near 3000. The noise is the loudest right above the number three cylinder. At that point I did a valve adjust, half turn past lash, and made sure that the pushrods were straight. There was no change in the noise. I have noticed that the noise is very significantly more noticeable when I first drive my car in the morning than when it is warm. Thanks in advance
