Safe Revving
Hey I know this might be a stupid question, I was wondering what the Max RPM you should take your LT1 too. I took mine to about 6,000 and it wanted to keep going. I didn't want to go any further it was only at 6 for a second. I know it wasnt good on it.

i think 6300 is safe. but also know that speedo you are looking at is 200 to 500 rpms off. it will read higher then it really is when reving that high and fast. other wise it will read correct when not flooring it.
some people goto to 6500 a few times and sieze thier motor and others dont. but more then that and your gonna have a prob.

I'm not sure..but it seems that LT1's LOVE to rev...my freind has a 96, with a 120K miles..he would rev that thing to like 6300 or so RPM, IN PARK. I know i know..he's a dumbAs$...but man, that thing revs fast as hell! It seems like it revs a helluva lot quicker than the LS1.
I just finished two sessions of dyno runs with my car. The
first round was three pulls to 6,200 and the second was
two pulls to 5,900. The reason for the difference is that
I forgot that the HPPIII sets the factory 5,800 rev limit to
6,200 so the second time around I set it to 5,900. I liked
the 5,900 limit better. 6,200 just sounded like too much.
It's probably safe up to 6,000 but if you are running a
stock setup what's the point.

How high you rev depends on how you're setup. If you have a forged and built bottom end you can rev a lot higher than somebody who is stock. My car accidently saw 7k for a sec. when a burnout got away from me, and I had no rev limiter. I shift now at about 6300 and have my limiter at 6500.
