Is this Safe to Do?
Hello All,
My car has 59,000 miles on the stock short block and is just a bolt on car right now. My question is, do you think it is safe to do a head and cam swap on it at this point? It is not my daily driver and has been meticulously maintained. Oil Change every thousand miles or so, since I just change it every season and dont put over a thousand miles on it during the summer. I was thinking LPE ported heads and LPE 211/219 Cam or LE2 Heads with a Crane 227. Neither of these cams need over 6k RPMs to make good power. I have been saving for a VRE 383 but was thinking I would use the money I saved for the top end and then contiue to save for a couple of years to do the stroker. The reason for not doing everything at the same time is my MORTGAGE..lol The car is in perfect shape. New Opti, WP, Plugs, Wires..etc. Thanks!! |
It will be "safe" if the work is done correctly, and meticulously.
Lingenfelter makes very good stuff, but is tends to be over-priced. He wants $1,765 to port your (core) LT1 heads. There are other sources that will do the work for less money, and have proven track records. These sources will also recommend a cam that compliments the level of head porting that you choose, and the level of performance that you want. Try a search for info on packages from various head proters, who are discussed, and debated here (too) often. |
Your main thing is to not get any dirt inside the engine. It have never been exposed to that point before...so keep eveything very very clean it should be just fine.

yea every engine build requires careful and clean work spaces and workers. You should be ok as long as you keep both in mind.
