running without o2 sensors?

if my o2 sensors are bad and causing me to run rich enough to backfire, would the car be more driveable if they were unplugged.

i guess what im asking is which is better, no signal or bad signal?

Youll get the SES light but you can try and unplug them I see why not. Then you can give jason cromer a call and pick up some new ones.

Go to an autozone and they can scan it for you.

If they are bad - replace them. Unhooking really can help as temporary solution - it will change the way PCM adjusts A/F ratio. It is a good idea to replace spark plugs together with O2's. If they are fouled during running rich - you will possibly damage your new O2's...

A bad O2 sensor dosn't put out a signal, thats why it's bad. When the sensor goes bad you are running straight off the base fuel map which is rich with out the O2 sensors to correct it. Just install new sensors.

How would you tell they are bad? Pull them and look?

so if they were bad, they would give an ses light?

they dont throw a code when connected, but do when they are not, yet it drives the same

Actually, I think your plugs are already fouled to death... Misfire (even when not throwing a code) can cause rich condition. Check wires & try pulling out any plug... I'd say change plugs + 02's.
