Running hot

Im having problems with my cooling system. I just replaced the coolant temp sensor in the engine,my gauge wasnt working. I replaced the thermostat with a brand new 180* one,i compared the two thermostats and they are the same. I also replaced the radiator cap and flushed the system. I just had a new water pump installed less than a month ago. Whenever i am sitting in traffic or at a stop light my temp gauge reads about 210*or the middle of the gauge. I used a 180* thermostat in my old 96 V6 camaro and no matter what the temp gauge never read over 180*. I aslo used a 70-30 mix of coolant to water ratio along with WaterWetter. Why does my temp rise so high?

Re: Running hot

theres 2 coolant temp sensors one for the pcm and one for the gauges. one for the pcm i believe is located on the water pump and the other one located i believe on the drivers side cylinder head

Re: Running hot

70% coolant (if that's what you really meant to type) to 30% water is excessive. The water has better heat transfer characteristics than the coolant, to its generally not a good idea to go over 50% coolant.

A 180deg t'stat is stock. It will START to open at 180degF, and will not be fully open until it reaches about 200degF. Your stock fans are programmed to go on at 226degF (1st fan or low speed) and 235degF (2nd fan or high speed). So running at 210degF is pretty much what the factory had in mind. Minimizes emissions, maximizes fuel economy.

With the LT1's reverse flow cooling system, its no problem to go with a 160degF t'stat, reduce the fan "on" temps to below 200degF, and then throw in a couple added degrees of timing advance for a little bit of extra power.
