Roller rocker install -- need help!

Hey folks, this is my first roller rocker install and I'm having a prob. The 1st set of springs I tried were 983 Comp Cams and didn't fit. So I got the 981's and pulled the dampers and they fit. The prob is when I put the old springs back on while waiting for the new ones, the valves started to open soon after I put on the nut. The threads were barely out of the stock nut where the other ones that I haven't touched are about 1/4" of threads protruding out of the nut. Now the new Comp Pro Mags are doing the same thing. one and a half turns on the poly lock and the darn valve starts to open -- using air to hold valves up. I'm thinking the pushrods aren't seated properly but haven't been able to figure out what's up. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Kevin -- Z28Nut

Just a side note: you won't drop a valve through the head with a stock stroke. Easier just to use a small pen magnet to hold the valve up and do all the springs at once instead of turning it over each time.

Thanks for the tip, Spinner. The air pressure is whats turning the engine enough to frustrate the crap outta me. Not sure I have enough hands to do the pen mag thing....lol. I'm done for the night tonight but I'll try it tomorrow.

Yep, soon to add Pro Mag rockers, Comp Cams springs, Mac midlengths and cut-out to my sig. Oh, yeah -- another 3.73 set of gears and all new bearings in the rear since I'm missing a few teeth off the current set. Should have her back on the road within the week.

Thanks again
