Result of running hot?
Result of running hot?
Greetings all. I haven't been on the board in years and had to re-register.
Keep in mind that I am a novice and have much to learn.
Recently, I had a radiator hose burst while in traffic. By the time I could pull over and kill the engine, the temp was into the red. I changed the hose and refilled/bled the cooling system.
Now, the car behaves as if it is a carburated engine that is flooded when I start it. If it's cold, it usually starts right up. If it's been running, I have to put the accelerator on the floor to get it to fire and get the rpms way up to keep it running. Also, the secondary cooling fan stays on permanently, now.
I had also just changed the EGR controller, so I don't know if that could be related.
Also, the SES light is on, but I haven't had a chance to have it scanned yet.

Re: Result of running hot?
You got the opti wet, Whenever you overheat an engine you hava great chance of blowing a head gasket and or breaking down the oil film.
I would check the codes if they are high or low res codes then the opti has gotten wet. If the codes are different pursue that. but I would also change the oil and filter as a precausion.

Thanks. That's the last thing I wanted to hear, as I put a new opti in it about a year and a half ago, only to find that my problem was a defective, new plug wire.
Any chance this could be a plug/wire problem? (yes I'm grasping, here)?

Re: Result of running hot?
Well, if the plugs are bare in a spot, or holding water in the Opti end boot it could cause miss and crossfires. You may just need to dry it out.
Re: Result of running hot?
Thanks.
Would that cause the secondary fan to remain on, fulltime?
btw, my coolant level sensor has been out for a while, but I never had any problems other than the idiot light.

The fan is on because it is in limp home mode because of the SES light, it must be the high/low res code, the TPS high or low wouldnt put it into LHM but would throw a light.
