Thumbs up Replaced Opti and Water Pump... What a difference indeed.

2 weeks ago my opti took a crap and left me stranded on the highway. I looked around a while and found the best deal I could. I turned out to be from Jason Cromer, $195 for the opti and $135 for the water pump. Other than him forgetting to ship it the same day as requested, he was great to deal with. That is if he refunds my shipping charges as he said he would because of the delay. Calling him tomorrow about that....

The Install

Took 6 hours spread over 2 nights. Not bad at all. Only real problem was an antifreeze shower I got to take after a battle with a stuck hose . It runs much better now, no sparatic idle and it is staying cooler as well. The old opti had a mechanical failure. The rotor would not rotate all the way around without getting stuck, not to mention various other rattles if gently shaken. The water pump was leaking some too, the bearing seal was half gone and the shaft made a grinding noise when you twisted it.

Moral of story, fix these things yourself because I saved about $700. That was a quote from a friend, didn't even want to know what a dealer would charge. And when doing the opti do the water pump too. Sorry if this is kinda long, just thought I would share.

Cool! Yeah I've got my engine apart for a rebuild right now, no clue howmany miles are on my opti or waterpump. I'm going with a CSI waterpump.

Was that price for the WHOLE vented opti assembly, or what? I want to replace that too while it's all apart...

Yes, $195 for a new vented opti. That is the best price I have seen anywhere. Give Jason a call, you will not be sorry.

My car is getting the same thing done today, but my mechanic is only charging me $190 for labor.

Hopefully mine will be running much better also.

The book time on that job is 3.5 hrs and the shop labor rate is $54.50/hr.

Seems like that should be a pretty reasonable price.

I can't really imagine that someone could charge too much more than that.

Plus it turns out that I have a burnt plug wire that was causing my problems, and my mechanic called and told me about that first, before he did all that work and charged me for it.

The chevy dealership wanted 600.00 just for the waterpump, I did it myself for 50.00, bought the rebuilt pump from autozone. Your always going to do a better job on your own car, as long as you know what your doing
