Replaced low oil sensor? Did it break off?
Replaced low oil sensor? Did it break off? HELP!!
The new one and the old one look totally different. The old one doesn't have the (creme colored) floater and the little circle thing on the end like the new on does. Does this mean it broke off? If so what do i need to do? Drop the oil pan? Also when i was unscrewing it one of the wires going into the connector broke off? Can i get a replacement clip and spice new wires into it, b/c it broke off about a cm from the clip. I'm in the middle of a cam swap and really need to get this thing back running again!

Re: Replaced low oil sensor? Did it break off?
I know i don't need it...but i already bought it and put it in!
What i really need to know is if i need to drop the oil pan and get that floater out...or if the stock one is broke off? Does anyone have a picture of the stock one? Cause the one i took out and the one i put in look way different, the one i took out is missing two things to new one has!

Re: Replaced low oil sensor? Did it break off?
I'm in the same situation as you, I replaced my leaking sensor and broke the float end off when removing it, since the cat was in the way. Lucky enough most of it fell out of the hole as it broke, but I'm not sure if there isn't any small pieces of the broken float in the oil pan. When changing my oil will any of the small particles drain out with the oil or should I drop my oil pan to be safe? I took a picture of my stock sensor but I don't know the best way to insert it in my post.
Here is a picture of sombody elses sensors to look at. The original sensor on the right is missing the float on the end and a round plastic end cap with 4 holes in it. I replaced my stock sensor with a napa echlin fls106 which is identical to the original gm sensor, does the new style gm sensor install and remove easier on 96 and 97 dual cat cars or is the driver side cat in the way?

Re: Replaced low oil sensor? Did it break off?
So that is what the stock one looks like...well damn...i wish i would have known the before i went ahead and broke the oil pan seal while taking off the timing cover..well ****...i'm just running into all types of things with my cam swap!
Re: Replaced low oil sensor? Did it break off?
Hmm, I think what you're seeing is normal...post a picture if possible. My original one on my 95Z looked completely different than the replacement one and my oil pan was taken off so I know nothing was left inside.
