Replace cam and crank timing gears with cam swap?

I am going to a XE 224/230 and I am going to use the stock timing chain setup. Do I just replace with a new stock LT1 chain or do I also need to change the cam and crank gear sprockets? Thanks!

IMO, you are wasting your time if you change the chain and not the sprockets also. As the chain wears, so do the sprockets.

I suppose you could just check the wear on them first, and decide from there. I personally think you should change all like Shoebox said, but if you don't have the money, theres not much you can do. The stock chain won't hold super high RPMs anyway, so if you keep them down, you'll probably be alright. I asked Cmotorsport if I should change gears and chain, they told me check the wear first, because the gears are expensive, maybe you should just step up to the extreme timing set. I 'm currently in the same boat as you trying to deciede what route to take, GM sure didn't leave many options, and with a 200 dollar chain it better be made out of silver

$50 more for stock sprockets is cheap insurance.
