Removing heads??
Removing heads??
I am in the process of removing my heads and there is a tube that goes from the back of one head to the other...well, I can't get the head off because the bolt that holds the tube on is rounded off and I can't get it out...any suggestions??? Also, for you guys that have done a head swap, what did you pistons look like? Mine look like crap...I mean the car has like 160,000 on it, so I knew they wouldn't be sparkling or anything, but man there is so much soot built up on them...anyway, let me know what you think about the head problem..thanks in advance
Are the heads of both banjo bolts rounded off? If it's only one side, remove the other side (15mm 6 point socket) and the tube can come off attached to the other head. Be sure to disconnect the tube from the TB fitting.
yeah that was gonna be my next thing to try. I haven't unbolted the pass.side head yet so I was gonna try to get it out of that head once I get the pass. head unbolted. I also thought of cutting the tube and then getting another one or fixing that one with rubber hose, what do you think? Those bolts are in there very tight.
Cut the tube, you'll have to replace it anyway when you put it back on because you won't get the tubes back in. It's easy to get off with vicegrips when you can hold the heads on the ground one at a time.
GM part number for the tube, bolts, seals, everything as a package
10108635
Good luck

I just unbolted both heads and took them off at the same time. Pretty easy to do that. Then you can probably get a pair of locking pliers on the banjo bolt that is stripped. Rather than blindly cutting the tube. Be sure to replace the banjo bolts and seals. the replacement bolts have larger heads.
