relocating the coil
I'm trying to clean up the engine bay more, I was thinking of putting it on the back firewall or on the side of the frame rail on the drivers side, then making a custom length coil wire. I've already wire tucked everything on the passenger fenderwell, wire tucked the fuse box and all wiring on the drivers side and the entire front harness. I also put the pcm under the dash and brought the wires for the motor harness out directly behind the motor, with extending the wires going to the starter so they can't be seen. I'd like to get the coil/icm relocated also so nothing is on the front of the head on either side.
Has anybody relocated it or have any ideas? |
You may want to keep in mind that the shortest coil wire possible is best for performance.

Moving the coil to the firewall would just clutter up the engine compartment more with wires, and offer the added downside of more resistance, as Rob pointed out. Move it forward to the radiator bulkhead if you have to. Where do you plan to put the ICM, if you move the coil?
Do an LTCC conversion, mount the 8 coils under the radiator support, and it will do away with everything visible from the top of the engine. http://www.injuneer.com/images/photo...e/DCP04253.jpg |
On top of what the above two said: try not to mount to another part of the motor if you do move it. Vibrations kill components and usually if things are put on the engine they are analyzed to try to find the best place to minimize vibration.

I decided to move it over to the passengers side head for now since my maf is going toward the passenger side, this will clean up my wiring and also tuck it behind my charge pipe fairly well. This will allow me to only have this wiring for the drivers side...

If you moved it to the passenger side head you will need a new coil wire. The one for the Corvettes will work. Mine is on my passenger side head and that is what I am using.

Thanks, I didn't know that!
