Reinstalling AC system.... NEED HELP

Where ever the ac lines connect to the rear of the compressor, is there shim or something that goes in between the hosing and the compressor, or do those two pieces just bolt together with that one bolt?

There should be a gasket between the compressor and line.It is most likely a thin steel gasket with rubber o-rings in it.

Where can I get the gasket and rings? What would I call them when I asked for them at a parts store?

Again, here's what I'm talking about.....http://photos.yahoo.com/unccmegn49

If that is a shot of the compressor. You would be looking for the gaskets that go between the manifold(that is what I always heard it called) and the compressor. Here is the AC-Delco kit #15-2722 and the O.E. GM #2724577. You would need two of the GM # as they are sold separately.

Ok, there seems to be a misunderstanding. There are two lines that go up to the piece of metal that has the bolt in it. One line directs back towards the firewall and the other directs forward toward the front of the car. Are you saying that there is a gasket for each line that goes to the condensor AND a gasket for the entire assembly that goes around the whole metal piece?

there are no gaskets, i just had mine off

the lines are able to push through the piece of metal that connect them, slide the metal back away from the compressor put the lines in the holes on the compressor they almost feel like the snap in, but they just sit like 1/16" dont in the compressor, then tighten the bolt and your done

Thats amazing that the ac system can hold that much pressure with no gaskets.

Well according to the parts and shop maunal there are two gaskets (they look like wheels seals) that go on each line in the back of the compressor. They are installed in the compressor itself not on the lines.

The old style GM compressors had the steel shim type , sorry about that.

well i guess whoever had my motor before me had a lazy mechanic, sorry for the bad info, mine's holding pressure without them though
but i think i'll be putting them in anyway lol

Were you saying that it looks like I need to pull my lines back?

I think I stripped that bolt that holds the lines on. I keep turning it and it gets tight then loosens up again. but when I try to charge the system, the gas just keeps on blowing out of that crack that the arrow is pointing to in the picture I posted. yay
