Reassemble after heads/cam, what should I look for, opti, hub etc.

Hey guys, I want to get everything right and have no problems, I'm am at the re assembly stage, engine is tore down to the cam.

What do I need to be careful with when reinstalling all the parts? I have heard that since I have a 95 I need to do something with the dowel pin on the HOTcam, but it is EXACTLY the same size as what's on the cam now. Any tips on cam install, is there anything tricky with re installing the opti as far as timing goes?

What is the correct way to install the crank hub/pulley?

Any help is greatly appreciated

John

Hi John, if you are using the same opti, and the pin on the hotcam is the same length as your stock cam, it will be fine. There is a slot it goes on in the opti on the drive pin (the clover looking piece) should be a little hole in one of those the pin goes into. Its pretty easy to do. As far as getting the hub back on, I used a rubber mallet to tap it on firmly, then used the original bolt to get it on the rest of the way. As far as the crank pulley, same deal, get it started on the hub, and use the 3 bolts to push it on the rest of the way, tightening each one the same amount as you go. Just be careful when putting the new cam in, and make sure your oil drive gear sits down flush before you tighten it. Make sure you use some cam lube, or assembly lube on the cam, mainly the lobes. Its a pretty straightforward process, you should be just fine....Good Luck

Thanks so much for the help! I'm at the stage now where I'm getting some jitters about putting it together. I just figured there might be some special reassembly sequence or technique or something.

my advice to you would be to watch out for water pump driveshaft, optispark, and crankshaft hub seals, since they might leak if you don't change them after putting everythig together. (painfull experience). I am pretty sure you damaged, or will damage the waterpump driveshaft seal, so be careful. Install the water pump seal with tming cover on, the over ones you can install while the cover is of. There is a trick installing waterpump driveshaft seal somewhere on the board, use it.
