Rear Seal, how hard to replace ?

Rear Seal, how hard to replace ?

New Transmission goes in this weekend. WHile I am there I was thinking of doing the rear main seal, how hard is it to do ?

No need to drop the pan to replace the rear main in an LT1..
it's a one piece seal in the 'rear main seal housing' that bolts to the back of the block..
You're doing the hardest part dropping the trans...

ohhh **** yea dude your right....its still gonna be a PITA getting that seal over the crank SQUARE from under the car..i had some issues with mine not going on the right way and my motor was on the stand lol...

Nah, most shops charge like $25 plus the cost of the seal. It's only listed as a 30 minute job if the trans is already out.

The Seal itself is like a ten second job. Get a flat head screw driver and just pop it out. Replacing the Gasket on the other hand is a major PITA. Think that's the one you gotta go all out for dropping pans and crap! BNah Humbug! :blah:

Its cake, use car removing the flex /flywheel bolts , if you round them off you add time to the job, Lube the new seal very good , goes oneasier and makes it last longer.

I just got the Real seal from advance auto parts for $20. For some reason I was thinking like $3.99. lol
