It's highly recommend to replace the inner and outer pinion bearings and their races as well as the carrier bearings/races. Could you get away with not doing so? I'm sure you could but I don't personally believe in doing crappy work on my car or any other ;) All the needed bearings come in the install "kits". The bearings need to be pressed on. In order to help initially set pinion depth I used the old bearing, removed just enough of its ID to slip it on the new pinion, fwiw.
I take it you have a depth gauge to read pinion depth and backlash? Don't forget to reprogram the PCM to account for the new gear ratio. I would also recommend a solid pinion spacer from Ratech to replace the crush sleave.
Remember these rearends take a lot of abuse and are relatively fragile. Using good bearings and fluid whenever taking them apart is just good preventative maintenance, IMO.
