Really High RPM loss of power?

I have an A4. When on the hwy and i floor it, at around 5700-5900 ish it shifts. But right around 5500 or so it feels like its out of gas or something, and slowly does the last 200 rpm until it shifts again. Any idea on what could be causing this?

I have a new fuel pump and the probems just developed recently...

fuel filter?

TobyZ28 05-18-2004 09:39 AM

I suppose thats a possibility but a new filter went in with the fuel pump. I guess it wouldnt hurt to throw a newer one in anyways as the fuel pump was done almost a year ago...

Anyone else have any ideas?

We're in the same exact boat again, man. I've been pulling my hair trying to figure this one out for the last few weeks.

Hey Don - tried replacing the coil yet? I have not done that.. do you have MSN? TobyZ28@hotmail.com add me :)

it could even be plugs on their way out. If its plugs, this will get worse over time, gradually becoming a high rpm hesitation, and then a miss at high rpm/heavy load.

You can take out a plug and look at it, if it looks like crap, its prob a good idea to change them.

The coil is a very good bet. Mine felt like it was "breaking up" at higher rpms and a new coil fixed it.

What brand pump did you put in? My buddy put a carter in his 96 caprice LT1, about 3 months later it had a high rpm miss, drivability problems. I told em the pump went to **** but he didnt beleive me and spent almost a grand swapping parts he didnt need to, before figuring out the pump he put in took a dump. Check your fuel pressure when you get the miss, in gear with a load, at speed!!

Yea i've got myself a Carter :( It's been in for almost a year now... the problem seems veeery similar to when it died before. Man if its the pump this sux.

I had the exact same problem. I have thrown in a LT4 knock module since then which helped, but i believe it is still there (Tranny is pulled apart in my garage---Trans go). I am going to be looking into it later. I know the feeling you are describing though. The engine seems to almost stop at about 5500rpm. It dies off then it like surges before it shifts:confused: The only thing i think that can be wrong with my car is the Opti. I have new plugs, wires, coil, fuel filter. Then agian i haven't had a new fuel pump ever put in---car has 130,000miles.(i wonder if the previous owener did before i got it
