Real Hp
Real Hp
a lot of people tell me that the horsepower readings are downgraded for insurance purposes.....im not sure if thats true or not, but if it is, what is the REAL reading on my 97 formula.....some kid told me that stangs that "they make 232 @ the wheels. now add your 20% due to parasitic drivetrain loss" and that equals 278.4 hp....if thats true, what would the readings be on my car?
97s was rated at 285hp(flywheel) from the factory. Dont think Chevy underrated the hp on lt1s. Since engines will vary ever so slightly, you might have a little more than 285 or little less than 285. assuming its all stock. real hp, get on the dyno and it'll give your rwhp.
The LT1 motors were rated right on. The LS1s in the f-bodies and also the LT4 motors were both undderrated, but not for insurance purposes. Instead, it was to avoiding hurting sales of C5s (and to keep C5 owners happy). The LT4s were rated at 330, but were actually more like 350. The LS1s in the f-bodies were rated around 305HP, but were again closer to 350HP.
