Reading spark plugs after WOT

Looking at the spark plugs to get a feel for the WOT throttle tune...

Will driving around after making a WOT pull change the color of the spark plugs enough to not be able to gauge what the engine is doing (too hot or too rich).

In order to successfully read a WOT plug you have to run WOT and then IMMEDIATELY shut the motor down to read the plugs. So it's best to do that under a controlled environment---not highway or street... Unless you are quick enough to grab and pull the steering wheel while your foot stays on the throttle and then turn the key again so the steering wheel does not lock...Then you can get a good description of how it runs WOT.

with the wider lsa cammed engines you don't really need to worry about a shutoff to accurately read your plugs. the point being that you don't want to skew the findings by idling/richening up the engine when pulling the plugs. for a street engine, you can run it down, bring it back to the pits and do a few high rpm revs then shut it off. you're good for a reading then. you'll need a good lighted magnifier to really see what's going on.
