Dude, it is vital to properly torque all major fasteners such as head bolts, intake bolts to ensure that tolerances and fit are correct and to prevent things from backing out. If you did not properly torque your head bolts then you need to do it or you really risk blowing another head gasket.

My bad. If you torqued them correctly I think you are good to go.

Some heads/gaskets you do and some you dont. Some designs felpro redesigned and you do not have retorque on some heads you use to have to. I dont know abut the LT1's but always wondered if that was a good idea on a 100k LT1 engine for preventive maintnance!?

Re: re torquing heads after replacing head gasket

I did it on my new engine since it had MLS gaskets & ARP studs, but I also had new fasteners that hadn't been heat cycled. It was a super PITA to do because I had to drop the headers and remove the rocker arms which I really didn't want to do. After it was done, I was happy I did it.

For stock type gaskets with seasoned fasteners, I don't see why you would need to do it.

i didnt and i'm running on about 5k miles with no problems...other than piston slap...but that's another problem alltogether.

i wouldnt worry about it if you used quality gaskets. or...if you're going to replace your rockers you might want to go ahead and touch them up while the covers are off.
