Quick question: Wiring harness and ECM?

I'm finishing my lt1 swap tomorrow (I was hoping to save enough to buy a hotcam kit and headers, but I wasn't able to, so I'm going to throw the engine in tomorrow)...Well, when I went to put the engine in last fall, I had a hard time putting the wiring harness on (The guy I bought it from said it was a '95 and I looked it up and its actually a '97)...Well, I just need to know, do I HAVE to use a '97 ECM and wiring harness, or are their other years I can use?

I have a '97 LT1 and a '95 wiring harness...I couldn't figure out why I had to splice into every wire until I found out I had the wrong wiring harness (oops)...So I'm going to buy a new wiring harness and I need an ECM...So I'm trying to figure out what year to get so I don't screw up AGAIN!...I figured '97's would work (duh), but just wanted to know if any other years would...

Lots of people have converted their 1996 or 1997 (OBD-II) to a 1994-1995(OBD-I) PCM. So you can use either, but will have to use the knock sensor meant for the year pcm you have. It is up to you to decide on which to select. You can probably find out more why people switch (and people switch both ways) by using the search.
