Quick question on oil cooler removal.
Quick question on oil cooler removal.
I am removing my cooler, what filter should i use now, it looks like there is "2 stubs" in the way of putting an oil filter directly to the part the cooler was hooked to. i hope someone knows what i am talking about. Thanks

Use deep well sockets to get the bolts off. You can either use a dremel and cut the extra stud part off or go to the hardware store and find something that matches.

Guys, i appriciate the responses. I am a little confused still. Here's what I did. I took off the filter and then just turned that piece that the filter threads to until the whole unit dropped. Now I still have a piece to thread a filter to but there are 2 little stud peices hanging down. I don't think a filter will thread all the way up with them in the way. What do I do?
Re: Quick question on oil cooler removal.
Use deep well sockets to get the studs off. They have a nut portion past the stud that a socket will fit. Once you get them off you can either use a dremel and cut the extra stud part off flush at the top of the bolt or go to the hardware store and find something that matches.
Got it?

What year LT1? There are two different cooler designs.
Shoebox has a diagram of one version:

Both systems come apart the same way. The earlier (93/94) design has a different solid black cooler block with a "Modine" label on it, and the coolant lines are both in a horizontal plane, rather than a vertical plane.
