I recall having trouble with mine.......and what I had done was cut mine in-half with a tubing cutter, and spliced it back together with some fuel line :D ( worked-out very well )

it's tough to get in there. Leave the header loose, so you can move it some. Also use a wire wheel and remove the paint from the bottom of the dipstick, the part that goes into the block. And you will have to bend it some and work it in. Be careful, it will kink!
Also, once you get it in there, put a little sealer around the bottom where it goes in.

sand it down a bit (the bottom part), oil it up, wiggle it;) :p and sliiiiiiddde it in:D

the problem is that the headers are already in and i don't want to take them back out or loosen the bolts. i might just cut the dang thing, but how do i but it back together so that it wont leak?

I cut mine in two places. One just an inch above where it goes into the block and the other about a inch above the bracket. I rejoined the pieces using high temp/pressure B&M transmission cooler tubing and some small band clamps. I can take my dipstick out for plug changes like that <snaps fingers> and put it back w/o any hassle whatsoever. I've had it like this since I put on the long tubes back in 2000. I also did somewhat like Slashz28 did and wirewheeled off all the black paint. Slides in and out quite easily after that.
