Quick/Easy crank/timing queston

I turned the crank too far when I was pulling off th crank gear and cannotbring it back. So how many times forward do I need to rotate it around to get it back to the point it was at. I think it is 4 but not positive. The cam sprocket is fine and right where is should be. I need to realign the dots though. Thanks.

I assume the chain is off. Just realign the dots and all is well.

ya, the chain is off. so just 1 time around until it is back at 12 o clock? So it doesnt need to be in sequence or nothing. My thought was b/c the crank sprocket is much smaller it required more turns to equal one turn of the larger. If ot, that makes it much easier b/c I am fightin compression.

I probably sound stupid but timing is a major thing and I dont want to mess it up. Thanks.

Shoebox, got a ? for ya; Ok, our cars have keyless cranks right? Say u have the motor at no. 1 TDC,and u have a cloyes double roller. They have the 4 * advance and retard. U have the cam sprocket "dot" at 6'o clock. Now, how can it make a differance where u put the dot on the crank sprocket since its not keyed?? Seems like u could put it the "dot" anywhere on the crank, as long as its at no. 1 TDC, and that would put the cam at the recommended straight up. Correct me if i'm wrong, this was just bugging me when I put my cloyes in.

Yes, the crank turns twice for every rotation of the cam. That means there are two times the crank is in the same position during a full sequence of the firing order.

The only thing you really need to know is to put the dots together.

The hub is not keyed. The sprocket is. That is where the timing between the crank and cam must be maintained.
