Question about hooker long tubes...
 

Ok, I'm getting some hooker long tubes for a 95Z28. Question is, what all am I going to need?

Hooker long tubes(bungs?)
Hooker Y-Pipe
Hooker Catback

Do I need O2 extentions or do they come with the headers? If so, how long? And where do I need the O2 bungs to be welded in at? Will I have any problems with the EGR and AIR stuff or do the headers have provision for them? If I'm missing anything let me know...

Well mine is a 97 and the Jethot brand came with two AIR fittings, EGR and 02 sensor bungs already welded on and Jethot coated for $500.00 delivered to my door. Not sure what your paying for the Hooker brand but as for what you'll need it depends on if your hooking up the emmission fittings, etc. As for the ypipe, Mufflex makes them, and a couple others have started to make ypipes for LT's now but I do not personally care for their fitup, too straight and hang too low. Custom ypipes can be tucked out of the way if you have a good muffler shop. You will need 02 extensions, I made my own, soldered about 12" of silver wire in between a new set of 02 sensors. As for the 02 bungs and where, Jethot longtube bungs are welded a couple inches or soforward of the collector flange on the inside facing the engine (both sides). I don't have the exact measurements.

Consider researching Jethots product vs paying $619 (price 6 months ago) for Hookers, coated, without the fittings (all that was extra)

Thanks for the info...not going to get them coated, so I was going to go with just the painted hookers.

Also, a little more info. This is a single cat car.

I have a 95Z w/ the Hooker LTs, so I will try to help ya out. Yes, you will need bungs, they will be 18 mm. I can't remember if it was fine thread, or course thread. Just buy 2 of each, and you can't go wrong. Unless someone else chimes in w/ the right one.

The Y pipe I used was from Internet Racer's Supply, and I don't even know if they are still in business anymore. The Hooker catback should hook up fine I guess, I have Borla, so I don't know about that part.

You can get 02 extentions from Thunder Racing, that is where I bought mine. They come in one length, 2', and that is a plenty.
You can weld your 02 bungs either right before the flange of the header, or in the y pipe. I had mine done in the y pipe, b/c my headers came coated. You will have to remove all your air/smog/
emissions crap w/ these headers. No air pump, nothing. Get some seals and gaskets to cut off your EGR. You will also get a SES for it, which is code 32 I think, for EGR, unless you have it programmed out.

I see that you are getting them painted. I strongly suggest you get them coated, inside and out. Those headers get EXTREMELY hot, and not having them coated could cause your wires to get burned in areas. Get some wire seperators either from Russell (best and most sturdy), or the Made4You wire seperators.

Anyway, if you want to paint them, that is up to you. But I guarentee you will end up coating them before long.

this is what i needed:

2x o2 extensions
2x AC Delco o2 sensors (ONLY get GM brand, not aftermarket)
zip ties

the highest rated metal foil tape you can find to wrap wires with. i got some foil tape from home depot (did research on part numbers) and found their highest temperature on the internet, then wrapped it around my ABS wires and a few other things that got too close for comfort, havn't burned anything.

stage8 locking header bolts... THIS IS A MUST. these are a HUGE pain in the ass to install, but well worth it.

fel-pro D-port style header gaskets for a 1995 LT1 camaro.

P'blaster or liquid wrench. soak everything down overnight and then again before you start working on it.

EGR block-off plates and gasket. you'll need a 2 plate set for the two holes on the back of the manifold. i think i got mine for 22 bucks on this board.

new spark plugs since your going to have them out anyways, and new spark plug wires. get the MSD 8.5mm wires for extra heat protection and on the passenger side have them go behind the motor mount (take a 90 degree turn to the back of the car as soon as they get off the opti).

one more vote that you go ahead and get coated headers.
It does cost more but the coating is really worth it, not just for looks but they help in that regard as well, the headers will last so much longer and the reduction in engine compartment heat cannot be overlooked.

Header gaskets, collector gaskets, header bolts, O2 extentions, Y-pipe blah blah blah... :)

I got my O2 extentions from Speed Inc. They come in 12", 24", and 36"

Hello,

Someone I know is selling hooker long tubes barely used at a very good price, but I had a few questions about them. Figured since there are a few hooker owners in here it would be the best place to ask.

First, he claims they are coated, but not ceramic coated, instead in a high-performance race coating which he claims is better for thermal isolation, so they look blackish-green. I had never heard of this before though, is there really a type of coating that looks like this?

Next, he might have a dual cat LT1, and I have a single cat. If he sells me his LT's and custom y-pipe that he has, will they fit on my car? Or will I need a different y-pipe than his?

I think Jet Hot makes a crinkle finish that looks that color, it costs more than the sterling finish most of us have.
The custom Y should fit on your car as long as the trannies are the same and maybe even if they are different.
If you both have the same tranny I would not worry but if they are different (I.E. six speed to auto) then I would measure first, or at least eyeball it to see if looks allright.
A good exhaust shop should be able to tweak it some if it needs it.
Of course I am assuming he did away with the cats so it might be a moot point.

if you have the same tranny it'll fit, just make sure you have a sawz all and you can cut your single cat catback to match up with the y-pipe

I would certainly get them coated. The underhood heat is significant. Burning plug wires every month is not pleasant.

Yes, he has gotten rid of the cats, and he does have a six speed like me I'm fairly certain...

The coating alone he claims cost him 300$, he insists that it is far superior to a ceramic coating.

If it is Jet Hot 2000 then it is superior to the silver coating that most people have.
