pushrod length checker question
ok i bought a pushrod length checker(Comp Cams 7702-1 Pushrod Length Checker, Master Magnum). Now how do i know what the length is when thier isnt any numbers on it?
I bought a 12" digital vernier caliper....the 6" one i have wouldn't cut it...lol
When you screw the two halves together that is your minimum length (6.800" for that part #) and there will be a line on each half that line up together. Each time you unscrew it one full turn (watch the two lines) it is equal to +.050".

8" Digital caliper at Harbor freight $35.00
8" dial caliper much less. Both are perfect and plenty accurate. |
I measured them(hopefully the rite way).i pretty much got that the 7.150" hit good on the valve stem....the block is the stock deck height, felpro 0.39 gasket, and ported TFS Heads...sound rite with those parts?
.......??
Yep sounds good to me.
FWIW the 7702-1 is EASY to use. It has a minimum length when the PR is fully screwed in of 6.800" every full turn where the lines meet up is .050" so you just count the turns from what works the best back down to fully closed and multiply by .050" and boom you get you PR length. Bret |
now when i measure..i put the the rod length checker in then put the rocker arm on and then tight the nut on that then crank the motor?the motor is on a stand..let me know if i was doing it rite?
yeah... normally I yank out the valve spring and just put a light spring in there as well, but most can't do that.
You need to mark the top of the valve with a sharpie or something, put the rocker on HOW YOU WILL RUN IT!!!! Most tighten it down WAY TOO MUCH when doing this. Then you turn the motor over BY HAND 2-3 times. Take it apart and view the mark on top of the valve. You want a centered narrow pattern. Bret |
ok now that i have the length wat size should i get?if it matters i have 3/8 rocker studs/arm
Whatever the checking PR told ya.
no like 3/8...7/16..5/16
Depends on your guideplates, most stuck stuff is 5/16

I used a lawnmower valve spring. Worked perfectly.
