Purple Ice/Water Wtter

Hello all. I have a question about these two cooling adds. Are they helpfull in LT1's? Are they something I would have to drain out once the cold North-Eastern winters come along? Is one better or more appropiate than the other? Thanks for reading and replying.

They work best when mixed with water only, but you can mix with anti freeze. You will notice more of a drop when mixed with water only, but you would have to add anti freeze for the winter months.

How hot are you running? Hot all the time or only while standing still?

i have a 91 z28, and they are infamous for overheating, and when i had the stock motor in it i put the water wetter in the coolant which was water and antifreeze, and even in the summer it always ran atleast 10 degrees cooler than normal. i put water wetter in everything i own now.

So what are you guys doing in the winter or the colder months. My car runs about 190º now with the AC blowing in 100º+ heat. And it runs about 160-170º in the winter. Can your car run too cool and not function properly. I know it wont go into closed loop when it doesnt pass a certain temperature.

Re: Purple Ice/Water Wtter

I had a GM dealer burp the system, so it runs normally 170 to 180. I had a 160 stat and it runs slightly warmer. The problem I have is in the summer months, it will shoot up in the cities very quickly and I need to put the heater on blasting in 90 degree summer heat in a all black car, tons of fun that is.

Re: Purple Ice/Water Wtter

I had a big block Pontiac that was right on the edge of running too hot. I added water wetter to it to see if I could notice any change and didn't but that's just one case...

Thumbs up Re: Purple Ice/Water Wtter

I got about a 5 to 10 degree drop in using a bottle in my '97 LT1.

Good stuff, but I wouldn't go 50% water - 50% Water Wetter unless your on the track. Coolants have pH bufers and corrosion inhibitors that this can't compete with.

Good additive, and decent option for coolant-free tracks.

I live in Texas we don't have winter

Seriosly though in the winter I drain the system and fill with antifreeze.
It is the summer months that the car wants to run a little warmer than I like

We did this year. Have picturers of Mustang island with snow on the palm trees. Very unusual. Course then we judge winter in hours, not months.

Anyway...........Was always on the fence and could never figure out if Water Wetter worked or not. In getting ready for a major car show I pulled almost everything off the front of the engine/car for detailing. Being it was out of the car, I CAREFULLY power sprayed both the radiator and condensor and striaghten all the fins. Can't believe all the crap that came out.

Plus I added something different than Red Line Water Wetter. Threw the bottle away and don't remember what the name, but you can buy it at O'Riellys and is green instead of red. Says something like "24 degree drop in engine temps". Whatever, the car runs the coolest it has ever run.

Think doing the radiator and condensor is about 90% of it. Maybe it was snow on Mustang island???

Maybe I'll have to try that stuff out, those are pretty nice results. I saw it advertised in one of the car mags a while back, maybe GMHTP... didn't think much into it though.
