Pulling the heads!

Is it okay to pull the head off and replace the headgasket without having the head resurfaced. The reason I ask is becase I broke off an exhaust manifold bolt and have to pull the head to get it off.

Should be no problem.Just make sure that there is no warping of head or block deck and make sure both are spotlessly clean when put back together.I did this a while back on mine and have not had any problems yet.

Re: Pulling the heads!

Just be careful how much you take off the head surface because you reach a point where intake bolts will not match up to the head. Of course any compotent machine shop knows this and will tell you if your intake will need machining also.

Have you already taken the head off? If the head is still on,why not just drill the old bolt out and re-thread the hole and use a stud that has opposite sizes. "the side of the stud that threads into the head is the new larger size, but the part of the stud that passes through the manifold is stock size, then through a washer and put a nut on and not screw with taking the head off.
