Re: Protective cover for opti??

Why waste money on a cover? When I bought my new AC Delco opti, before I installed it, I ran a heavy bead of hi-temp RTV silicone across the whole opti seam where the cover mates with the distributor body. I have spray washed the engine, had radiator hoses burst 2 times, spraying onto the opti, and that RTV has held up like a champ! NO opti problems!

I agree, Just seal up "every" seam on your opti with RTV , take your time and put a nice even bead that covers all joined surfaces and you shouldn't ever have any problems....the last thing you need is some cover material possibly building up moisture over your opti......

Re: Protective cover for opti??

I did the RTV trick on my new opti 70k miles ago, and have had no trouble with water since. Before, rain/large puddles would douse the opti and cause a miss that would last about 20 minutes.
