proper start up procedure?
 

I have just completed a heads and cam swap, and was wondering what the proper start up procedure was. The car has been down for around four months now, if that helps in any way.

I just finished my heads/cam swap this past week and did the following:
1) Pour a few quarts of oil over your valvetrain and let it run out your
drain plug. I did this just to "wash out" any dust/debris that may have
been in the engine.
2) Install new oil filter--don't install it dry, fill it up w/ dino oil.
3) Pour remaining oil over each side of your valvetrain. Soak the rockers/
springs/pushrods real good.
4) Pull the two elec. connections to the coil and the 2 fuel injector fuses.
5) Turn car over for 5 to 10 seconds and check for oil pressure.
I had to do this several times before pressure showed (around 20psi).
This will help oil everything up and get oil to your bearings.
6) Reinstall coil connections and injector fuses.
7) Start car and keep your eye on your pressure and temp. Keep car
around 2300rpm for 25 minutes.
8) Change oil and filter--keep using dino.
9) After 500 miles I'm going to change my oil again and go to synthetic.
I'm also being pretty easy on her during this time which isn't the easiest
thing to do ;) .

you dont need to run it for 25 min unless you are running flat tappet cam/lifters. the 2300-2500 rpm range is also what is used to wear in a flat tappet cam. it is a good idea to let the car idle for 15-20 min to make sure everything is cherry. i would agree with watching the temp and oil pressure.

so how do you go about adjusting the rockers when you are keeping it at 2300-2500 rpm's
